PURPOSE:To remove dust from a high-temp. exhaust gas emitted from an electric steel making furnace without injuring a bag filter by using said exhaust gas for preheating of raw material scrap, then cooling the gas with cold wind or cooling water and subjecting the gas to dust removal with the bag filter. CONSTITUTION:The high-temp. exhaust gas from the electric steel making furnace 1 is introduced into a combustion column 4 to burn the CO contained therein and to increase the temp. to the high temp. at the time of melting and refining the scrap preheated in the furnace 1 and producing a molten steel. The gas is then alternately supplied to scrap preheating furnaces 2A, 2B to preheat the scrap of the raw material in the steel making furnace 1. The exhaust gas emitted from the preheating furnaces is still as hot as about 100 deg.C and contains oil-components, etc., sticking to the scrap and therefore, the bag filter 19 is burned if such gas is directly fed to the bag filter. The temp. of the gas is measured 24 before the gas enters the bag filter 19 and the measured temp. is inputted to a controller 25 which feeds the cold wind from an emergency cold wind damper 22 according to the temp. separately to a cooling duct 14 and bypass duct 15 or further cools the gas substantially with the cooling water from the 1st and 2nd cooling water nozzles 20, 23 in order to prevent such injury. The gas is then subjected to the dust removal in the bag filter 19.
