Abstract:
The sulphuric acid, which has been preconcentrated in two stages to 75%, is heated to 240 - 260 DEG C in a heat exchanger (24) made of enamelled double-shell tubes, and in an adjoining stripping vessel (25) which likewise consists of enamelled steel is stripped under reduced pressure of 80 mbar until the azeotropic point (98.3%) is reached. The concentrated acid, heated to approximately 320 DEG C, is then purified, with the addition of an oxidant, in an adjoining heated quartz glass tube (38). The hot purified acid is cooled in a heat exchanger (3) by the crude acid fed to the system.
