A method of treating a liquid which comprises hydrophobizing colloidal particles in a stable hydrated state or a metastable hydrophobic colloidal state in the liquid with an electric field formed by a microwave to separate them from molecules of the liquid, colliding the separated colloidal particles with each other by the action of cavitation caused by low-frequency ultrasonics to coagulate the particles, and deodorizing the liquid with high-frequency electromagnetic ultrasonics. Thus, the colloidal particles dissolved in the liquid can be easily removed without fail and the liquid can be deodorized without the need of large-scale facilities. Specifically, a liquid containing colloidal particles of water-soluble organic substances, microorganisms, etc. is treated by applying a microwave to the liquid to separate the colloidal particles from molecules of the liquid, then applying low-frequency ultrasonics to the resultant mixture to coagulate the colloidal particles, and finally applying high-frequency electromagnetics ultrasonics to the liquid to deodorize the same.
