Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:1-Benzoylazo-2,2-dihalogenoethylene of formula I (X=Cl or Br).
EXAMPLE: 1-Benzoylazo-2,2-dichloroethylene.
USE: Synthetic intermediate for agricultural fungicides.
PROCESS: To objective compound of formula I is easily obtained in high yield by the dehydrohalogenation of a N-benzoyl-N'-(2,2,2-trihalogenoethylidene)-hydrazine of formula III with a dehydrohalogenation agent, e.g. an alkali formate. The compound of formula I thus obtained is treated with a compound of formula HY (Y is a halogen different from X) to afford a compound of formula II which is useful as an agricultural fungicide.
