PURPOSE: To obtain a new 1-(3,3-diphenyl-2-propenyl)imidazole derivative useful as an antithrombotic medicine, having excellent inhibitory action on blood platelet aggregation.
CONSTITUTION: A 1-(3,3-diphenyl-2-propenyl)imidazole derivative of formula I (R1 is lower alkyl; R2 is cyano or halogen) and its pharmacologically permissible salt such as α-[bis(4-methoxyphenyl)methylene]imidazole-1-propionitrile. The compound of formula I is obtained by subjecting a halogenated compound of formula II (X is halogen) to condensation reaction with imidazole in a solvent in the presence or absence of a base. The compound of formula I has both inhibitory action on cyclooxygenase and inhibitory action on thromboxane A2 synthesis and excellent inhibitory action on blood platelet aggregation and antithrombotic action.
