PURPOSE: To provide new 1,1-bicyclo-substituted fluorine-containing cyclopentanes useful as intermediates for active compounds and polymers such as, in particular, polycarbonates, polyesters and polyester carbonates.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [X1, X2 are F or Cl; A, B are phenyl or cyclohexyl ring; R1-R5 and R1'-R5' are (i) H, optionally substituted 1-12C alkyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl, 6-10C aryl, 1-12C alkoxy, 6-10C aryloxy, OH, halogen or di-1-4C alkylamino, (ii) NO2, NH2, mono-1-4C alkylamino, isocyanate, COOH, etc.], e.g. 1,1-bis-(4-bromophenyl)-octafluorocyclopentane. In the case where R1-R5 and R1'-R5' of the compound stand for groups belonging to (i), a compound of formula II is reacted with 2 moles or more of a compound of formula III (Each of R6-R10 stands for (i) for R1-R5 and R1'-R5') in the presence of anhydrous hydrofluoric acid, and the reaction product is appropriately converted.
