Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:A 1,3-dioxane derivative expressed by formula I (R is 1-10C alkyl; A is single bond or CH2CH2; X is F or CN; Y is F when X is CN and H or F when X is F; cyclohexane ring and 1,3-dioxane ring are trans configuration).
EXAMPLE: trans-2-(4'-Fluorophenyl)-5-(trans-4'-propylcyclohexyl)-1,3-dioxane.
USE: A raw material for nematic liquid crystals used in liquid crystal display devices.
PREPARATION: For example, a 2-(4'-alkylcyclohexyl)propane-1,3-diol expressed by formula II is reacted with substituted benzaldehydes in a solvent such as dichloromethane using p-toluenesulfonic acid as a catalyst to afford the 1,3- dioxane derivative expressed by formula I.
