PURPOSE: To provide a new compd. having strong and selective inhibiting activity to monoamine oxidase B useful for treating emotional disorder, schizophrenia, Parkinsonism or the like.
CONSTITUTION: A compd. represented by formula I (wherein R1 is H, hydroxyl, phenoxy, a 1-4C alkoxy or the like; R2 is a straight chain or branched chain 1-8C alkyl substd. with a halogen and/or hydroxy or the like or trifluoro-3-5C alkenyl) in a pure enantiomer state or enantiomer mixture state or a salt thereof, for example, 5-[4-(4,4,4-trifluorobutoxy)phenyl]-3-methoxyethyl-1,3,4- oxadiazol-2(3H)-one is designated. This compd. is obtained by reacting a compd. represented by formula II and a compd. represented by the formula; R2X (wherein X is a halogen, methoxy or the like) in the presence of a base such as potassium carbonate or the like in a solvent such as acetonitrile or the like. The compd. represented by the formula II is obtained by using p- hydroxybenzoic acid ester represented by formula III as a starting raw material.
