NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R1 is alkoxy; R2 is H or alkoxy; R3 is R2 or alkyl; A is alkylene; Y is O, C(R7)H (R7 is R2) or NH; E is phenyl, naphthyl, 1,3-dioxoindanyl, 1,4-naphthoquinonyl or 5- or 6-membered unsaturated heterocyclic group having 1W4 hetero atoms (N, O or S); lis 0 or 1].
EXAMPLE: 2-[6-(5-Methoxy-1,4-benzoquinon-3-yl)hexyl]pyridine.
USE: A 5-lipoxygenase inhibitor, capable of suppressing formation of SRS-A from arachidonic acid and useful for preventing and treating diseases, e.g. asthma, inflammation, allergy, etc., caused by formation of the SRS-A.
PREPARATION: A compound expressed by formula II (R4 is methoxymethyl; R5 is H or OR4) is demethoxymethylated to give a compound expressed by formula III (R6 is H or OH), which is then oxidized to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
