PURPOSE: To obtain the above-mentioned novel compound advantageous for treating cardiovascular disorders, such as heart failure, hypertension, or the like.
CONSTITUTION: 14-Deoxy-14a-cardenolide 3β-thioderivative is represented by formula I, {wherein the mark (=) is a single bond or a double bond; R is [substitution, such as quaternary ammonium, 2-(2-imidazolinyl), one or more group OR1, (wherein R1 is H, methyl, or the like), or the like] 2-6C alkyl or 3-6C alkenyl}, such as 3β-(2-(N-methyl-N-pyrrolidinium)ethylthio)-5β,14α-cardo-20(22)- enolide chloride, or the like. A compound represented by formula I can be obtained by condensing a compound represented by formula II with a compound represented by R-Y, (wherein Y is an electron attractive group) in the presence of a strong base at -20°C to about 60°C.
