PURPOSE: To provide a novel 2-benzazepine compound useful as a medicine having an action on central nervous systems, etc.

CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [R1 is H, halogen, OH, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy; R2 is CH2CONR4R5 (R4, R5 are H, alkyl, aralkyl or heteroaralkyl, or form a heterocyclic ring together with N) ; R3 is H, alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl; X us O, S) and a salt thereof, e.g. 4(S)- benzyloxycarbonylamino-1,2,4,5-tetrahydro-3H benzazepine-3-one. The compound of formula I is produced e.g. by reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III in an inert solvent under cooling or under heating.
