The two-cycle engine introducing air-fuel mixture (M) and air (A) from scavenging passages (30 and 31) to a combustion chamber (1a) includes valve elements (50 and 51) for adjusting openings of an air passage (23) for supplying the air (A) to the scavenging passages (30 and 31) and an air-fuel mixture passage (24) for supplying the air-fuel mixture (M) to the scavenging passages (30 and 31), a check valve (41) preventing the backflow of the air (A) in the air passage (23), and delay members (60 and 63) protruding in the air passage (23) on the upstream side of the check valve (41) and delaying the time for the air (A) to reach the scavenging passages (30 and 31) from the valve element (50).
