PURPOSE: To provide the subject new compound having high antibacterial activity against sensitive/resistant gram-positive and gram-negative bactera and high stability to β-lactamase and DHP-I, thus useful as an antibacterial agent.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula I (R1 is H or methyl; R2 is H, lower alkyl, oxo, OH, lower alkoxy, amino, N-lower alkylamino, N,N-di lower alkylamino, carbamoyl, lower alkylcarbamoyl or di-lower alkylcarbamoyl; (n) is 1-4; dotted line-bearing bond is single or double bond) or pharmacertically permissible salt or ester thereof, e.g. (5R, 6S)-2-(cyclopentene-1-yl)-6-[(1R)-1- hydroxyethyl]-1-carbapen-2-em-3-carboxylic acid. This compound can be obtained by reaction of a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III in the presence of a palladium compound and a salt and then, if needed, removing the protecting group.
