NEW MATERIAL: Dextro-rotatory (+) enantiomer compound of (2-hydroxy-2- adamantyl)-1-imidazolyl-3-tolylmethane of the formula, and the physiologically allowable acid addition salt of the same.
EXAMPLE: (+)-(2-Hydroxy-2-adamantyl)-1-imidazolyl-3-tolylmethane (2S,3S)-acid tartrate.
USE: Medicine. Antidepressant.
PROCESS: A racemic body of a compound of the formula, that is, enantiomeric dextro-rotatory (+)-(2-hydroxy-2-adamantyl)-1-imidazolyl-3-tolylmethane (2S,3S)- acid tartrate, is obtained by converting one equivalent of (2S,3S)-(-)-tartaric acid, into acid tartrate in a suitable solvent or solvent mixture, then fractionally crystallizing the acid tartrate of diastereoisomer generated from a suitable solvent, and then continuously recrystallizing and precipitating at least once by the time when a specific rotatory power becomes constant, by the suitable solvent or the like.
