PURPOSE: To provide new pentane-diisocyanate in which the physical properties and the working properties thereof are alternatable by properly selecting substituents and which can effectively be used as a material for preparing polyisocyanate by the polyaddition process, and effectively used as an insect pest control agent.
CONSTITUTION: This compound is represented by formula I (R1 and R2 are each alkyl, 2-12C alkenyl, or R1 and R2 form 4-7C alkylene together), e.g. 2,2- dialkylpentane-1,5-diisocyanate. The compound is prepared by thermally decomposing 2,2-dialkylpentane-1,5-diurethane of formula II (R3 and R4 are each 1-20C alkyl, 5-12C cycloalkyl), optionally in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. Lu), in a vapor phase at more than 300°C under reduced pressure. The compound of formula II is prepared by reacting 2,2-dialkylpentane-1,5-diamine with urea and alcohol.
