Abstract:
(2-Oxo-pyrrolidine-1)- and (2-oxo- piperidine-1) carboxylic acids having the general formula: in which R1 is H or 1 or more C1-4 alkyl and R2 is H or C1-4 alkyl, n is 0-4 and R3 is H or a radical IIa or IIb providing the compound Ia is other than (2-oxo-pyrrolidino) acetic acid hydrazide, act as psychopharmacological drugs against retrograde and anterograde amnesia and ischemias, and have a nootropic action. The compounds are prepared by reacting the corresponding methyl ester with R3NH.NH2.
