To obtain a new compound capable of manifesting specific and selective modulating actions on a potassium channel and suitable for use as a medicament for combating diseases in the central nervous system and sickle cell anemia.
This compound is represented by formula I [R is a 6-10C aryl, pyridyl (which can optionally be substituted with CN, a halogen, CF3 or a ≤6C alkylthio); R1 is H, a ≤8C linear or branched chain alkyl; R2 is a ≤6C linear or branched chain alkyl or a 3-6C cycloalkyl; D and E together may form CO-(CH2)3, CO-CH2-C(CH3)2-CH2, CO-O-CH2 or CH2-O-CO-], e.g. isopropyl 4-(2,3- dichlorophenyl)-1,2-dimethyl-5-oxo-1,4,5,7,8-hexahydroquinoline-3-carboxylate. The compound represented by formula I in which D/E is not CH2-O-CO is obtained by reacting an aldehyde represented by the formula R-CHO with compounds represented by formulae II and III and reacting the resultant compound represented by formula IV with an alkylating agent represented by the formula R2-X (X is a halogen).
