NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R is 1-20C straight-chain, branched or cyclic alkyl or aryl which may have substituent group; n is 0 or 1).
EXAMPLE: 6-Amyloxymethyl-2,3-dicyanonaphthalene.
USE: A fluorescent substance or raw material for optical information recording media or electrophotographic sensitive materials.
PREPARATION: For example, 4,5-dibromo-α,α,α',α'-tetraboromo-o-xylene expressed by formula II is reacted with methyl acrylate in the presence of sodium iodide to provide a compound expressed by formula III, which is then reduced to afford 2,3-dibromo-6-naphthylmethanol expressed by formula IV. The resultant compound expressed by formula IV is subsequently reacted with a compound expressed by the formula RCl to provide a compound expressed by formula V, which is then reacted with cuprous cyanide to afford the compound expressed by formula I. The compound expressed by formula II is obtained by reacting o-xylene with bromine and then reacting the resultant compound with N-bromosuccinimide while irradiation the reaction mixture with while light.
