PURPOSE: To obtain a new 2,3-dihydro-1H-indene derivative useful as a hypoxia improver, an antioxidant, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A compound shown by formula I {R1 and R2 are H, alkyl, phenyl which may be substituted, cycloalkyl which may be substituted, OH, etc.; R3 is halogen or alkyl; R4 is H, halogen, phenylalkyl, alkyl, etc.; R5 is hydroxyimino, alkylamino, NHR8 [R8 is H, halogen-substituted alkynoyl, phenylalkyl or -A-B (A is alkylene, alkylene-CO-, etc.; B is 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic group), etc.]; R6 is H, phenyl; R7 is H or alkyl} such as 2,3- dihydro-7-hydroxy-4-methyl-6-(1-phenyl-2-propenyl)-1H-inden-1-one oxime. A compound shown by formula I wherein R5 is NH2 is obtained by reacting a compound shown by formula II with hydroxylamine in a proper inert solvent in the presence or absence of a basic compound and reducing the prepared compound shown by formula III.
