Abstract:

To provide a method for optically resolving an erythro-form 2- hydroxy-3-nitro-4-phenylbutyric acid, to obtain the butyric acid having the (2S,3S) configuration and to provide a method for producing the (2S,3S)-2-hydroxy-3- nitro-4-phenylbutyric acid.

An optically active α-methylbenzylamine is made to act on a mixture of two kinds of enantiomers of the erythro-form 2-hydroxy-3-nitro-4- phenylbutyric acid.
