Abstract:
31,41-Didesoxykanamycin B (I) is prepd. by reacting a 4-O-(1,6-diamino-2,3,4,6-tetradesoxy-alpha-D-glucopyranosyl) -2-desoxystreptamine (II) (i.e., gentamine C1a) in which the amino gps. are protected, with a 3-amino-3-desoxy-D-glucopyranosyl halide (III) in which the amino and hydroxyl gps. are protected, and subjecting the prodt. to hydrogenolysis and/or hydrolysis to remove the protecting gps. (I) is an antibacterial agent active against Gram-negative and -positive bacteria, including kanamycin-resistant strains.
