PURPOSE: To obtain a 3-formylpinane derivative having lasting aromatic fragrance and odor, producible at a low cost and useful as a component for cosmetics, bathing agents, aromatics, detergents, etc., by subjecting 3- formylpinane to treatments comprising acetalization, reduction, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The objective 3-formylpinane derivative (acetals, hydroxymethylpinane and its esters) expressed by formula 1 [R is group of formula II (X is H or methyl) or formula III (Y1 and Y2 are H, OH, 1-3C alkoxy or 1-3C acyloxy provided that Y1 and Y2 arp not H at the same time)] can be produced by using 3-formylpinane as a starting raw material and subjecting the material to either one of acetalization, reduction, esterification, etc., or their arbitrary combination. A perfumery composition containing the derivative as an active component emits strong and refreshing grassy, citron or floral fragrance.
