Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: This compound is represented by formula I [either one of broken lines in ring A is a double bond, R is α-H, α-hydroxy or α-acetoxy and/or formula II (W is a bond or a 1-12C alkylidene; R<2> is a 1-8C alkyl, etc.), =CH-W-CO-R<2> , =CH-W-OR<5> (R<5> is a phenyl-1-6C alkylcarbonyl, etc.), etc.] or its salt. EXAMPLE: 17 β-N,N-Diisopropylcarboxamido-3-nitro-5-α-androst-3-ene. USE: A 5-α-reductase inhibitor, capable of reducing and maintaining the size of the prostate and useful for acne vulgaris, seborrhea, female hirsutism, prostatic hypertrophy, male pattern baldness, etc. PREPARATION: A compound represented by formula III is reacted with a nitro derivative in an unreactive organic solvent to afford the compound represented by formula I.
