PURPOSE: To obtain a mixture which does not deposit crystals for a long term in a low-temp. region and is useful for a liq. crystal display used in a low-temp. region by mixing (4-cyclohexylbutyl)benzene derivs. having deuterium atoms.
CONSTITUTION: The mixture comprises at least two compds. represented by the formula provided that they are different from each other in the number of deuterium atoms and/or in the positions substd. by deuterium atoms at the positions of from X1 to X4 and that they all have the same R1, Y1, and Y2 groups. In the formula. R1 is 1-12C alkyl, etc.; X1 to X4 are each hydrogen (H) or deuterium (D) provided at least one of them is deuterium; Y1 and Y2 are each H or F; Z is F, Cl, cyano, -R2, -OR2, etc.; R2 is 1-12C alkyl or 3-12C alkenyl; and the cyclohexane ring is trans. The mixture is easily produced industrially from commercially easily available compds. and is excellent in compatibility with other liq. crystal compds.
