PURPOSE: To treat skin or muco-epithelial diseases of a mammal by administering an effective amt. of a specific 4-quinolinecarboxylic acid deriv. to a mammal other than a human as an active component.
CONSTITUTION: A compd. represented by formula I {wherein R is a group represented by formula II [wherein R1 is a group represented by formula III, a 5-12C alkyl, a group represented by formula IV (wherein Z and W are H, F, Cl, Br or a 1-5C alkyl; and Y is Z or W) or a group represented by formula V, a group represented by formula VI (wherein R2 is groups represented by formulae IV, V), a group represented by formula VII (m is 0 or 1) or a group represented by formula VIII but; when R is the group represented by formula VII, R1 is further a 3-5C alkyl; R3 is H, a 1-3C alkoxy or 1-2C alkyl; R4 is CO2H or CO2R11 (wherein R11 is a group represented by formula IX (wherein R9 and R9A are each a 1-3C alkyl)]; R5 to R8 are each H, F, Cl, I, CH3 or CH2CH3; but at least two of R5 to R8 are each H} or its phermacologically pref. salt satisfying conditions such that R5=R6=R7=H (1) and R7=Cl when R6 is CH3 (2) is used as an active component.
