PURPOSE: To obtain a 5-lipoxygenase composition with low toxicity and high safety, containing N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3,3-bis(methylthio)propanamide as an active ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-3,3-bis(methylthio)propanamide is blended with a solvent, excipient, auxiliary, etc., and pharmaceutically manufactured by a conventional procedure to give the aimed substance. A dose is 120W160mg calculated as the weight of the compound shown by the formula per adult daily and preferably administered dividedly about three times. The compound shown by the formula is obtained by extracting dried seed of Entada phaseoloides Merrill, a plant of the family Leguminosae, with methanol, etc., acidifying, then adding ammonium hydroxide, extracting the compound with an organic solvent for several times, concentrating, drying, etc.
