Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a novel compound useful as an intermediate for producing an anthracene compound for a therapeutic agent for bacterial injection diseases of warm blood animals.

CONSTITUTION: 5,8-Dichloro-1,4,9,10-anthracenetetron is produced. The compound is obtained by agitating a suspension of 1,4-dichloro-5,8-dihydroxy-9,10- anthracenedione containing lead tetraacetate and glacial acetic acid, treating the same with ethylene glycol, diluting the same with dichloromethane, washing the mixture with water, and drying the same so as to evaporate organic groups.
