NEW MATERIAL:Titled compound of formulaI(R1 is H or alkyl; R2 is alkyl or subtd. alkyl; R3 is alkyl).
EXAMPLE: 3,4-α-epoxy-6-(1-hexenyl)-2-oxobicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-1-carboxylic methyl ester.
USE: General synthetic intermediate for natural types of prostaglandin. PREPARATION;A bicyclohexenone derivative of formula II is treated with an oxidant such as hydrogen peroxide in a reaction medium that is made basic with sodium hydroxide or ethoxide to afford the objective compond of formulaI. The use of solvents such as water, alcohols, or ethers is preferred for high yield.
