Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I.

USE: A raw material for polyimide resin. The polyimide resin derived from the compound and pyromellitic anhydride has relatively low glass transition temperature and excellent heat-resistance, moldability and thermal stability.

PREPARATION: The objective compound of formula I can be produced by reacting m-dinitrobenzene with 6,6'-dihydroxy-3,3,3',3'-tetramethyl-1,1'-spiro biindane of formula II in the presence of a base (preferably potassium carbonate or potassium bicarbonate) in an aprotic polar solvent at 120W180°C and reducing the resultant bis(3-nitrophenoxy) compound of formula III.
