NEW MATERIAL:9-Bromomethylacridine of formula.
USE: Useful for the analysis of carboxylic acids by using as a fluorescent and UV-absorption labeling reagent. Since the reaction product of the compound of formula and carboxylic acid has extremely high molecular extinction coefficient, carboxylic acid can be determined in high sensitivity. A high-intensity emission line of a deuterium lamp can be used as a fluorescent detector to enable high-sensitivity detection. It can be applied not only to fatty acid but also to a carboxyl-containing compound such as prostaglandin, leucotriene, etc. Applicable also for the analysis of carboxylic acid in blood and living tissue, etc.
PREPARATION: Diphenylamine is heated in acetic acid in the presence of a catalyst and the resultant 9-aminoacridine is refluxed in an organic solvent in the presence of a radical reaction initiator and a bromination agent under heating, left to cool and recrystallized to obtain the objective compound of formula.
