PURPOSE: To perform a precise surface grinding by providing a plurality of ridges consisting of at least one abrasive composite material on a grinding wheel surface so as to extend along an imaginary line situated in the center of the horizontal axis of the ridge and crossing in two surfaces without being aligned in a row in the device direction.
CONSTITUTION: In an endless abrasive belt (abrasive article) 30, a series of ridge segments 34 of an abrasive composite material aligned in several rows are mounted on a support body 31, and the ridge segments 34 are provided in a spiral pattern on the surface of the abrasive article. The abrasive article 10 (30) is provided with a support sheet 12, and a number of abrasive composite materials are dispersed on its surface 13 in the form of a ridge segment 11. This abrasive composite material consists of a number of abrasive grains 14 dispersed in a binder 15, and the ridge segment 11 has a vertical axial line extending along the center of the horizontal axis of the ridge, and the vertical axial line extends along an imaginary line crossing a plane P at an angle which is neither 0° nor 90°.
