Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the title composition capable of giving defectfree abraded surface of low coarseness, with no problems such as toxicity and corrosion, suitable for the precision abrasion for magnetic disc substrates, comprising water, an alumina abrasive material and fluorine-based surfactant.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition comprising (A) water, (B) pref. 2-25wt.% of an alumina abrasive material, and (C) pref. 0.08-5wt.% of a fluorine- based surfactant (e.g. 2-20C perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acid). The component B, which is α-alumina, can be obtained, for example, by calcination of an alumina hydrate at 1100-1400°C for 2-3hr followed by grinding with e.g. a dry-type high-speed rotary mill.
