This refrigerator comprises an absorption type refrigerator 1 having a regenerator G, a condenser C, an absorber A, and an evaporator E and a plurality of compression type refrigerating machines 2 to 5 having one or more of user side heat exchangers Ec, depressurizing mechanisms V, compressors M, first heat source side heat exchangers C1 for exchanging heat between a first heat source fluid and refrigerant, and second heat source side heat exchangers C2 connected in series and/or parallel with the first heat source side heat exchangers C1. The evaporator E of the absorbing refrigerating machine 1 exchanges heat with the second heat source side heat exchangers C2 of the compression refrigerating machines 2 to 5, and the heat exchangers C2 of the refrigerating machines 2 to 5 and the evaporator E of the refrigerating machine 1 are connected to each other in series and/or parallel with the flow of heat transfer medium. The refrigerating machine 1 comprises a means for detecting the temperature of the heat exchanger E or an equivalent physical amount, and may comprises a means for controlling the temperature or the corresponding physical value within a specified range.
