To provide an AC generator and motor drive system for vehicle, in which current flowing in a switching element can be controlled to the allowed value of the element, and an engine can be started by only a 180° conduction angle control method with proper voltage utilization efficiency.
A conduction control method is adopted for driving an AC generator/motor 1, by conducting the switching element 5 at an almost 180° section at an electrical angle at the engine start. The system is provided with a temperature sensor 6 for detecting the system-related temperature, at the periphery of the AC generator/motor 1; and a plate heat control means 4 for switching the switching element 5 to be within a range that maximum current does not exceed a prescribed value, and for preheating it before the engine is started, when the temperature detected by the temperature sensor 6 is lower than the reference temperature set previously.
