To obtain an accelerator of self-sustained combustion of refuse, capable of accelerating complete combustion of the refuse even at a low temperature, and capable of suppressing the formation of dioxins in an incinerator.

This accelerator of self-sustained combustion consists essentially of a Ce compound, especially has ≥20 wt.% content of the Ce compound and suitably contains 20-50 wt.% at least one kind of a complex aluminosilicate salt besides the Ce compound. The accelerator is used by burning the refuse after directly spraying the accelerator thereon, or burning the refuse while supplying the accelerator to the refuse, and also used by mixing the accelerator with a plastic material and forming the mixed plastic into a refuse bag.
