Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound having good solubility to solvents and compatibility with binder resins, excellent in matching with an electron charge- generating agent, thereby excellent in electron-transporting property in low electric field and capable of providing an electrophotographic photoreceptor having high sensitivity as an electron transporting agent.

CONSTITUTION: This compound is expressed by formula I [R is an alkyl, an aryl or aralky1; (m) is 1-4], e.g. 2,4,5,7-tetranitro-N-methylacridone. The compound is obtained by reacting, e.g. an acridone of formula III with a compound of the formula RX (X is a halogen) in a solvent such as THF in an inert gas atmosphere in the presence of sodium hydride at 120-25°C for 6hr to afford an N-alkyl-substituted acridone derivative of formula III and nitrating the derivative using a mixed acid of fuming nitric acid with sulfuric acid. Furthermore, acridone of formula II is obtained by heating diphenylamine-2-carboxylic acid together with phosphoryl chloride and treating the resultant 9-chloroacridine with diluted hydrochloric acid.
