To provide a resin composition for coating and a coating material which have a good adhesion to the various material surfaces and which can form a coating film excellent in the glossy feeling, smoothness and alcohol resistance and also which have an excellent waterproofness.
The acrylic polymer of which the acid value is 0.1 to 100 mg KOH/g, the hydroxy group value is 2 to 400 mg KOH/g and the weight average molecular weight is 3,000 to 100,000 is obtained by the copolymerization of (a) 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol mono(meth)acrylate of 1 to 80 pts.wt., (b) a polymerizable unsaturated monomer having an acid functional group of 0.1 to 10 pts.wt. and (c) other polymerizable unsaturated monomer of 10 to 98.9 pts.wt. (a total 100 pts.wt. of components (a) to (c)). The resin composition for coating and the coating material use the copolymer.
