Abstract:

PURPOSE:To prepare the title terpolymer giving a molded item excellent in mechanical, optical, and thermal characteristics by subjecting a specific (meth) acrylic ester, a compd. having a norbornene backbone, and a compd. radical- polymerizable with the compd. having the norbornene backbone to radical polymn. CONSTITUTION:An acrylic or methacrylic ester of formula 1 (wherein R<1> is H or methyl; and R<2> is an optionally substd. 1-12C aliph. hydrocarbon group, an alicyclic hydrocarbon group, or an arom. hydrocarbon group), a compd. having a norbornene backbone, and a compd. radical-polymerizable with the compd. having the norbornene backbone are subjected to radical polymn. to give the title terpolymer having a number-average mol.wt. (measured by gel permeation chromatography, in terms of PS) of 5X10<3>-3X10<8>.
