PURPOSE: The titled emulsion excellent in water repellency, oil repellency, etc., prepared by emulsion-polymerizing an alkyl (meth)acrylate, a radical-polymerizable unsaturated carboxylic acid and a (meth)acrylate ester, in the presence of a specified polymer.
CONSTITUTION: The following monomers are emulsion-polymerized at 60W90°C in an aqueous medium in the presence of 0.1W20wt%, based on the total monomers, polymer or oligomer having a property such that it forms a three-dimensional structure and becomes solvent-insoluble upon heating (e.g., aldehyde PVA): (A) 40W90wt% total of 0W90wt% 1W8C alkyl acrylate and 0W90wt% 1W8C alkyl methacrylate, (B) 0.1W10wt% radical-polymerizable unsaturated carboxylic acid (e.g., maleic acid), (C) 0.1W50wt% (meth)acrylate ester of an alcohol containing fluorinated alkyl groups and/or fluorinated alkylene groups and (D) 0W50wt% different unsaturated monomer (e.g., styrene).
