PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new actinomyces belonging to the genus Streptomyces, having TGF-β-inhibiting activity and capable of producing TGF-β inhibiting active substance for treating diabetic nephropathy, acute glomerulonephritis, cirrhosis of the liver, pulmonary fibrosis, etc., caused by TGF-β.
CONSTITUTION: This actinomyces comprises actinomyces Streptomyces sp. NKK-908 (FERM P-14410) belonging to the genus Streptomyces, having gray- based aerial mycelium color, forming key-like or spiral spore chain in sporophore of aerial mycelium and having smooth surface of spore and capable of assimilating L-arabinose, D xylose, D-fructose, L-rhamnose, sucrose and raffinose on Pridham-Gottlieb agar culture medium and having TGF-β inhibiting substance-producing ability. The actinomyces is cultured in a culture medium and then, a substance produced by the actinomyces is separated and collected from a cultured products to provide the objective TGF-β-inhibiting substance useful as a medicine for treating diabetic nephropathy, acute glomerulonephritis, cirrhosis of the liver, pulmonary fibrosis, etc., proliferative vitreous body retinopathy, etc., to which TGF-β is related.
