NEW MATERIAL:Fluoroatinomycin having fluorine atom bonded to phenoxazone skeleton and having the following physical and chemical properties (in the case of fluoroactinomycin D). Melting point, 227.0W229.0°C; Rf value, 0.58 (chloroform/methanol=9:1, silica gel); MS (MIMS), 1272 (M+).
USE: Antitumor agent and antibacterial agent (effective against Gram-positive bacteria). The pharmacological activity can be improved and made durable by the introduction of fluorine atom.
PREPARATION: An actinomycin-producing strain [e.g. Streptomyces parvullus (ATCC 1243), etc.] is cultured in the presence of a nucleus-fluorinated tryptophan (preferably 5-fluorotryptophan) preferably at 20W40°C and 4W10pH under shaking, and the objective fluoroactinomycin is separated from the culture liquid.
