Abstract:
To provide activated carbon having a large specific surface area and a pore structure suitable for electric double layer capacitor, using an organic treatment object, such as a woody material, as a raw material, and a method for producing the same.
The activated carbon is produced by subjecting a treatment object composed mainly of a woody material to carbonization treatment and activation treatment continuously performed in an atmosphere of superheated steam. The activated carbon has a total specific surface area of 600 m2/g and such a pore distribution structure that an external specific surface area occupies 20-75% of the total specific surface area.
