Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To subject a fiber sheet comprising carbonized fibers as a base material to a uniform activation treatment by horizontally transferring the fiber sheet in a thermal treatment zone having a temperature-raising zone and a temperature-lowering zone in the front and rear positions.
SOLUTION: This method for activating the textile sheet of a woven or nonwoven fabric comprising continuous carbonized filaments or spun carbonized yarns as a base material comprises delivering the fiber sheet 3 comprising the carbonized fibers or the spun carbonized yarns as the base material from a supply station 2, introducing the fiber sheet 3 into thermal treatment zone 16 through the air lock of the inlet section 21 of an overn 15 and a temperature-raising zone, horizontally transferring the fiber sheet 3 at a linear speed of 1-5cm/min in the thermal treatment zone 3, simultaneously subjecting the fiber sheet 3 to an activation treatment, and subsequently delivering out the treated fiber sheet through a temperature-lowering zone and the air lock of an exit section 22. In the thermal treatment zone 16, an oxidation gas comprising the selectively combined mixture of steam with carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide or the mixture further containing nitrogen gas and controlled in a temperature range of 800-1000°C, preferably 850-950°C, in the maximum temperature distribution difference of 2°C with a heater means 17 is constantly passed in a flow rate range of 1.5-8.0m3/hr.
