To provide an active damper which has simple constitution and high damping capability in spite of its device size which is not so large, and is easily adaptive to vibrations changing in dominant vibration frequency although using a simple control rule.
An active damper includes a beam elastic body 2, a mass body 4, an actuator 4, a vibration sensor 7 which detects vibrations of a vibration body 1 in an object direction of damping, and an actuator control part 6 which controls an axial extension/contraction quantity or control power of the actuator 4 on the basis of the vibrations in the object direction of damping detected by the vibration sensor. The actuator control part 6 is configured to control the axial expansion/contraction quantity of the actuator 4 so as to exhibit control power in the object direction of damping proportional to force in the object direction of damping transmitted to the mass body 3 through the beam elastic body 2 by the vibrations of the vibration body 1 detected by the vibration sensor 7.
