To provide an active matrix substrate which has a high numerical aperture, can improve the display quality and is suitable for the use in a liquid crystal display device.
Plural scanning wirings 2 are formed on a substrate 1 which is optically transmittable and electrically insulated. A plurality of signal wirings 8 are arranged to cross the wirings 2. Switching elements 18 which are constituted of thin film transistors, are arranged at the crossing portions of the wirings 2 and 8. Pixel electrodes 13 which are respectively connected to the elements 18, are provided. Shielding electrodes 22 which are held to a prescribed voltage, are provided to the locations of opposite side of the electrodes 13 through gate insulation layers 5 while sandwitching the wirings 8.
