To restrain a phenomenon that orientation gets faulty because it is hidden behind an electrode at the time of rubbing and to reduce a fault that a part of a picture element formed in grating shape becomes a bright point defect by controlling the end faces of a picture element electrode, a common electrode and a video signal conductor to have a specified cone angle.
All the electrodes constituting a display picture element, that is, a pixel electrode constituting a scanning signal electrode, a video signal electrode and the picture element electrode, and the common electrode, and an active element are formed on either base plate 27 of two base plates interposing a liquid crystal layer. An edge part in the cross-sectional shape of the electrode wiring is allowed to have a specified angle, desirably, the cone angle of 10° to 70°. Namely, the electrode 28 being the pixel electrode or the common electrode existing on the base plate 27 where the display picture element is formed is allowed to have the cone angle of 10° to 70°. Thus, sufficient orientation regulating force is given to an oriented film by a rubbing roll 21 behind the electrode 28 at the time of rubbing and the partial bright point is prevented from occurring.
