Abstract:
To provide a method and apparatus for controlling a preload of a duplex rolling element bearing system under various temperatures.
One or a plurality of spacers 123 may be located adjacent to outer rings 105, 109 or inner rings 107, 111 of the duplex rolling element bearings. The one or the plurality of spacers 123 may be heated or cooled to increase or decrease an axial dimension of the spacer or spacers 123. A change in the axial dimension of the spacers 123 changes the preload of the duplex rolling element bearing system. The preload of the system may be estimated by receiving an input from one or a plurality of sensors located on the duplex rolling element bearing system. The sensor may be a temperature sensor or a force transducer.
