A linear/rotary actuator that has a movable element having a permanent magnet or iron core teeth forming a field, and a stator having a θ armature winding generating a rotating field having a pole pitch λ in a rotary θ direction and an X armature winding generating a progressive field having a pole pitch γ in a linear X direction, and that applies a current to the θ armature winding and X armature winding to generate a torque in the θ direction and a thrust in the X direction, which provide rotary and linear actions of the movable element, includes in the field of the movable element a double N pole cylindrical part 211a having a plurality of N poles on magnetic surfaces, and a double S pole cylindrical part 211b having a plurality of S poles on magnetic surfaces. The double N pole cylindrical part and the double S pole cylindrical part are arranged such that the N poles of the double N pole cylindrical part and the S poles of the double S pole cylindrical part have pole intervals of γ in the X direction and λ in the θ direction, and the permanent magnet is arranged between the double N pole cylindrical part and the double S pole cylindrical part to provide a magnetization direction in the X direction.
