To provide a lightweight actuator having nodefect like oil leakage of a hydraulic actuator, having high reliability, and outputting linear motion.
This actuator 10 is provided with a piston 20 reciprocating between first and second positions and a link mechanism 30 in which the piston is connected with one end of a rod member 31 turning using link center 32 as a fulcrum, a first shape memory alloy wire 40 expanding and contracting in the same direction as the traveling direction A of the piston is connected with the other end, and a second shape memory alloy wire 50 expanding and contracting in the same direction as the traveling direction of the piston is connected between one end of the rod member and link center. Current is carried to the first shape memory alloy wire distorted in advance to contract it, and, at the same time, the second shape memory alloy wire is expanded without carrying current to it to move the piston to the first position. Then, current is carried to the second shape memory alloy wire to contract it, and, at the same time, current carrying to the first shape memory alloy wire is stopped to expand it and move the piston to the second position.
