To quickly fix an adapter body on a branch pipe by providing a fastening band which can freely set the adapter body in a fixing state where it is fastened and fixed on the outer periphery of the branch pipe and in a releasing state where it is released from the fixing state and by holding the fastening band in the fixing state by a fastening mechanism.
When an adapter for connecting a pipe which is used for a branch pipe of a saddle joint joined to a gas pipe is used, a fastening band 12, 12' is closed until its engaging recessed part 13, 13' is engaged with a flange- like projection 11 up to a point. Next, the male threads of a screw rod 21 are engaged with the female threads 20 and the fastening band 12, 12' remains connected to the adapter body 2 and is set in a state where it can be oscillated in a specified range. Next, while suitable pressing force is applied on the adapter 2 toward the base part of the branch pipe 32, a fastening handle 23 is turned to gradually bring the fastening band 12, 12' closer together and to fasten the outer periphery of the branch pipe 32 in a state where it can not be removed with a fixing surface 15, 15'.
